We pride ourselves on adopting a flexible approach to our graduate programmes, from the recruitment process through to the training, development and benefits that we offer.

We welcome graduates from all backgrounds who have an active interest in the property industry. We offer graduates four pathways to professional qualification; commercial surveying, building surveying, planning and development surveying, and town planning.

Your APC and Training and Development

Whether you select the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) pathways of the APC or are pursuing a dual-qualification, we will be able to tailor your training and development to suit your career aspirations.

Upon joining our graduate programme you will be invited to a national induction where you will get to meet all of the other new trainees across the business in a session tailored to you and your career journey.

When you join your programme, you will be invited to workshops, interim assessments, seminars, meetings and training sessions. Our goal is to help you achieve your goal, so we are committed to giving you the solid foundation required for your professional development.

Our rotational programmes offer four six-month rotations in your first two years. If you join on a non-rotational programme, your training will be focussed on sustained experience in the business unit you choose to join, but still with the opportunity to rotate to another team upon becoming professionally qualified.

Our APC pass rates are first-class. Over the last five years, more than 90% of our graduates pass first time, which shows that we are well-placed to provide you with the best possible start to your career, wherever you’re based.

Our Industrial and Distribution team lets, sells or acquires around 10 million sq ft of space per year and has approximately the same amount under management.

Land and Development

Our extensive service offering ranges from consultancy to agency to valuations. We were the pioneer in establishing a specialist automotive team to work with dealerships, autocentres, petrol-filling stations, drive-thru retail, convenience stores and motorway service stations.

Planning

Our Building Advisory team is a top three advisor in the UK market and one of the largest teams within a property consultancy.

Property Management

Our Property and Centre Management teams aim to deliver a best practice property management service by building strong relationships with landlords and occupiers of commercial property.

They manage commercial properties across the UK with over 18,000 occupiers and a combine annual rent roll in excess of £500m.

Within Property and Centre Management is our Corporate Solutions team. We are the leading acquisition agent in the Telecoms market. Our Telecoms team provide a holistic advisory service, including support with acquisitions, planning services and anything else necessary to satisfy the roll-out and upgrade needs of network operators such as EE and 3.

Healthcare

Our specialist, in-house Healthcare team are market leaders in the valuation of healthcare properties. They provide tailored building, financial and lease consultancy services as well as planning and valuation advice across the NHS and public sector.

 

Energy and Natural Resources

From flood risk consultancy and environmental due diligence to business sales and asset valuation, our Energy and Natural Resources team are equipped to provide a comprehensive range of services to our clients.

The team is divided into three specialisms: Energy, Environmental and Minerals & Waste. With increasing governmental regulation focussing on onshore and offshore renewables, this is a team that has to be as adaptable as possible.

Undergraduates

Each year we welcome undergraduates into the business to gain industry experience within their chosen pathway with a view to securing a place on our graduate programme for the following year.
Our undergraduate programmes give you an insight into life with us, from our working culture to how we build trusted relationships with our clients.

Placement year

Our 10 – 12 month placement is a great opportunity to put your theory into practice and work with one of our teams in an office of your choice.

You will apply to your chosen pathway – Commercial Surveyor, Building Surveyor or Planning – and have the chance to gain experience by working with employees at all levels including Directors and Senior Directors on high profile real estate, development portfolios.

Not only will you gain support as you develop your experience and be invited to internal training courses, but you also have the potential opportunity to work towards your APC during your placement year.

We have opportunities for students who are undertaking a sandwich course, taking a gap year during their studies or those who are about to begin a Masters degree.

Our placement applications will open on the 23rd September and close on the 31st December.

Internships

Each year, we welcome a number of undergraduates to work in one of our 12 offices throughout the UK as part of our summer internship programme. Our values are important to us: client focus, trust, integrity and respect are all things you will witness throughout the recruitment process and your internship.

In light of the continued escalation of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we have made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 Summer Internship Programme.

We hope to engage with candidates again when applications for the 2021 Graduate Scheme open in September 2020.

Apprenticeships

Jump straight into your career with one of our apprenticeship programmes.

We see the value in apprenticeships and offer a variety of opportunities. You will work in one of our offices completing duties that are aligned to your professional qualification, with the support of a line manager and tutor.

We typically take students on to complete a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in surveying or planning. We also offer apprenticeship opportunities within our support functions, including accountancy, IT and business administration.

Our apprenticeship applications will open September 2019.

When you are getting started in your career you are bound to have questions on your mind. We have compiled answers to the most frequently asked ones.

What are your minimum academic requirements?

We’ve recently removed our academic requirements. Whilst we do look at academic performance, we look at the strength of your application as a whole, rather than just the individual parts.

I would like to apply for a graduate position but my degree is not RICS or RTPI accredited. Can I still apply?

We will consider applications from graduates from a non-property related background, although you will need to demonstrate you have a current passion for property, and you will be expected to undertake a RICS or RTPI Masters conversion course while you’re with us.

Do you accept applications from international students?

We may only sponsor non-EEA nationals to take up a position on the graduate scheme if there are no suitable candidates from within the EEA to fill the vacancies. Although applications can still be made, please note that if you require sponsorship to work in the UK, your application will be placed on hold until all candidates with existing right to work in the UK have been reviewed.

You will need to provide us with as much detail as you can on the application form regarding your right to work in the UK.

I graduated from University a few years ago. Can I still apply for a graduate position?

Our programmes are open to all graduates, regardless of when you graduated.

Should I include all of my work experience, or just property related experience on my application form?

Although we do look favourably on property related work experience we are also interested in any other experience where you have gained transferable skills, such as team working, customer service and organisation skills. So, please include all work experience that you feel demonstrates any useful skills, not just property experience.

I have a disability. Will this affect my application?

We treat all applications fairly, irrespective of their actual or assumed background. We ask that you provide details of your disability on the application form so that we may adapt the application process to best suit your needs.

Can I defer my graduate programme entry for a year?

No, you will need to re-apply from September 2020 if you wish to be considered for the 2021 intake.

Can I choose where I'm based?

You can indicate two locations in order of preference on the graduate application form. There is also a ‘no preference’ option if you are open to working in any location.

For our summer and year placements you can make one application per programme and the location will be stated on the vacancy description.

I have accidentally applied for the wrong pathway - what can I do?

How do I apply?

Commercial and planning applications should be received online by 5pm on 10th November 2019 and building consultancy applications should be received online by 5pm on 20th November 2019.

In order to be fair and consistent to all candidates, all applications must be received via our online application form – CV’s will not be accepted.

Can I apply for a summer placement if I previously applied for a year out placement?

Yes.  You can make one application per programme during that academic year.

What happens after I have submitted my application form?

Your application will be reviewed by a member of our future talent team. If you meet our initial requirements you’ll be asked to complete some online tests.

How will you get in touch with me?

We will keep in touch regularly regarding your application, usually by email.  You are also able to track the progress of your application yourself by logging in to the system using the details you saved when you applied.

If I am offered a graduate position, when will I start?

Generally speaking, graduates join us in September each year. However if there are any opportunities for you to start earlier, we will contact you to discuss this.

How does the year out placement scheme run?

Some places are available for year out placements each year although exact numbers vary from year-to-year. Locations and business units that offer these placements are also variable, so if you have a specific area of interest, please note this on your application. Placements begin between May and September each year.
